North Dakota CE Requirements

Dental Assistant

Every dental assistant practicing in North Dakota must have a current certificate of proficiency in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Qualified Dental Assistant (QDA)
Registered Dental Assistant (RDA)

# CE Required: 16 hours by the end of every even-numbered year (Board registration expires on December 31 of every even-numbered year)

Required Topics:

  • Infection control: at least two hours
  • CPR: two hours (must provide hands-on training and cannot be earned by home study or online)
  • Ethics or jurisprudence: at least two hours
  • Practice Management or Administration: no more than one hour

Notes: A maximum of eight hours may be from self-study (publications) or online courses. Non-clinical hours are no longer accepted.

Registered Dental Assistant or Qualified Dental Assistant with Anesthesia Assisting Permit

For an RDA with an anesthesia assisting permit, at least two of the required 16 hours must be related to sedation or anesthesia.

Registered Dental Assistant with Restorative Functions Permit

For an RDA with a restorative functions permit, two of the required 16 hours must be related to restorative dentistry.

Qualified Dental Assistant-Limited Radiology Registrants

CE Required: at least two-hours related to infection control and a CPR course every two years.

Dental Anesthesia Assistant (sole registrant)

CE Required: at least two-hours related to sedation or anesthesia and a CPR course every two years.
