• Dental Assistant with nitrous oxide monitoring certificate
To renew any certificate issued by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners, a dental assistant must
- Complete six hours of continuing education each year in areas covering dental assisting duties; dental assistants who hold two or more certificates are required to complete 12 hours of continuing education per year to renew all certificates held by the dental assistant; a dental assistant may fulfill continuing education requirements through Board-approved self-study, interactive computer courses or lecture courses. RDA’s annual renewal of registration requires RDA to submit proof the applicant has completed current course in BLS.
- Complete a course in human trafficking prevention approved by the executive commissioner of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.

*Note: Currently, the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners issues only the RDA certificate and the nitrous oxide monitoring certificate to dental assistants.
Note: Effective May 1, 2018, Registered Dental Assistants are allowed to carry forward 6 hours of CE from their previous renewal cycle.
